Dalhousie Faculty of Dentistry wins Gies Award
The Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie was recently announced as a recipient of the William J. Gies Award for achievement as an academic dental institution. The Gies award is awarded for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement. An event at Dalhousie took place Wednesday, April 11th to mark this achievement with remarks from Halifax MP Megan Leslie, Dalhousie Dean of Dentistry Tom Boran and Dalhousie President Tom Traves.

The Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie is the first Canadian School to win a William J. Gies Award and only the fifth institution overall to win for achievement as an academic dental institution.
The Gies award recognizes the international reputation of the Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie as educators and researchers and the faculty, staff and students as providers of ethical, caring and compassionate health care. The Dean and members of the faculty received the award in March in Orlando, Florida.
As it prepares to celebrate its centennial in May 2012, this award is a testatment to the 100 years of outstanding education at the Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie, here in Nova Scotia.
The Gies Awards, named after dental education pioneer William J. Gies, Ph.D., honor individuals and organizations exemplifying dedication to the highest standards of vision, innovation, and achievement in dental education, research, and leadership. The Gies Awards are presented by the ADEAGies Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Dental Education Association.
